Once again, this week I was not present for the group discussion. I encouraged the members of the group each to prepare to lead the discussion out of their individual study of the passage:

Once again, here is the handout for the passage we will be looking at this Sunday. I encourage you to print a copy (or several!) to use as you look at the passage.
As I mentioned last week, as you start circling and underlining and connecting ideas in the passage you may begin to see new ideas. Then it may be helpful to start with a fresh copy in order to focus on those particular directions. When I am starting with a passage to lead a discussion, I often go through at least two or three sheets before I feel like I have enough of a handle on the text to think about discussion questions.
Put yourself in that position, having the opportunity to lead the discussion on Sunday morning. What is the Holy Spirit showing you from Scripture about your own life and what God is doing? And how can you help others explore the passage to see what He might be doing in their lives? Each of us coming with that attitude should be an opportunity to “stir one another to love and good deeds.”
Looking forward to Sunday morning with you,
How would you lead a group in a fresh discussion of such a familiar passage?
