Because I was out of town for two weeks, I do not have comments on the group discussion for those passages. Since one of the goals of the group is to gain skills and confidence in digging into Scripture, this was an opportunity for the other members of the group to use those skills to help each other learn from the passages. There had been requests for me to email ahead of time the passage to be studied on Sunday. I encouraged each person in the group to approach the passage as if he or she was leading the discussion that week:

Thanks for the great discussion this morning – such a rich passage, so little time!
Here is a handout for next week, picking up where John the Baptist began responding to his worried disciples. We talked about that a little this morning, but there is so much more that it is worth another week.
As I mentioned, I will not be there and I am very sorry to miss the interaction around this passage. In fact, I just couldn’t help myself – I added some questions on the back. (If you don’t want to be influenced by my thinking, don’t look at the back of the page – at least not at first). As I read the text those are the questions I want to explore, either on my own or (even better) with our group.
I look forward to hearing the questions that you want to learn about as you read the passage.
I encourage you, blog reader, to download the passages and study for yourself. Then ask, “How would I lead a discussion group through this passage.” I hope you find the process fruitful.
